running medicPrimary First Aid - £45

Conducted over 4 hours and valid for 3 years, the purpose of the Primary First Aid Award
i. To provide a basic level of knowledge and skill to render First Aid should the need arise and within a reasonable distance of medical assistance.
ii. To provide BCU L1 and L2 coaches with an appropriate basic First Aid award.
iii. To revalidate a current BCU Aquatic First Aid award.

Candidates who demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the skills and theory covered in
the course are awarded the BCU Primary First Aid Award. There is no formal assessment at the end of the course. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course.

strecherPrimary Resuscitation - £45

Purpose of Award
To test the ability to perform basic life support including the correct method of summoning assistance, placing a casualty in the recovery position and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and is valid for three years from the date of the test.

The Primary Resuscitation award is purely assessment based and no formal training modules are associated with the award.

Taught over 4 hours, and valid for 3 years, the purpose of the Emergency First Aid Award is to provide a basic level of knowledge and skill to render First Aid should the need arise and within a reasonable distance of medical assistance.

Candidates who demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the skills and theory covered in the course are awarded the BCU Lifeguards Appointed Person First Aid Award. There is no formal assessment at the end of the course. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course.

first aid manAquatic First Aid Level 1- £70

Conducted over 8 hours and valid for 3 years, this first aid course provides a basic level of knowledge and skill to render First Aid in a range of emergency situations within a reasonable distance of medical assistance. It also provides BCU coaches with an appropriate basic First Aid award.

NB Those undertaking canoeing activities in more hazardous environments or in remote locations should consider a more appropriate First Aid award.

Candidates who demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the skills and theory covered in
the course will be awarded the BCU Aquatic First Aid Award. There is no formal assessment at the end of the course. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course.

first aid bearPaediatric Resuscitation

The Purpose of the Paediatric Resuscitation Award is to provide first aiders who are trained in adult resuscitation with the knowledge and skills required to perform baby and child resuscitation and is valid for three years.

The BCU Paediatric Resuscitation Award is taught over a two hour period. Candidates who demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the skills and theory covered in the course will be awarded the BCU Paediatric Resuscitation Award.

There is no formal assessment at the end of the course. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course.

AEDAutomated External Defibrillator - £35

More and more public places now have AED's located at various points around the venue. A laypersons version of the machines found in hospitals, they are simple and easy to use.

The course builds on and compliments skills already learnt by the first aider by teaching the proper use of these devices. This life saving device can increase a patient's chance of survival from a cardiac arrest by fifty percent. During this course you'll review the basic principles of Primary Care (CPR) and learn how to deploy and use an AED in an emergency situation.
